Cindy Walters

Fifty-years ago on July 9, 1967, Acadia St. Landry Hospital opened its doors at 810 S. Broadway. As we look back over the past 50 years, Acadia St. Landry Hospital is still striving to bring to the people of our community and the surrounding areas our mission of “excellent patient care with touching hands, caring hearts, and healing minds with great expectations of a better tomorrow.” Last year on June 23, 2016 the Acadia St. Landry Board of Commissioner’s appointed Cindy Walters as the new CEO. Ms. Walters pledged to continue the mission that began July 9, 1967. Since June 23, 2016, Ms. Walters has dedicated numerous hours to bringing about sometimes “difficult”, but necessary adjustments to one of our communities most cherished resources. Acadia St. Landry Hospital employs over 100 people. At the time Ms. Walters assumed the role of CEO many hard financial decisions had to be made to stabilize one of the largest employers in our community. Through the years Acadia St. Landry Hospital has overcome many challenges and difficulties. It is because of successful years of effective leadership this hospital has been blessed with 50 years of continuous service to our community and surrounding areas. Ms. Walter’s states “coming in on the 49th year of operation has given me personal enjoyment beyond description.” She has been able to work with “the most energetic and enthusiastic people” on the planning of this milestone. She has pondered this thought many days and personally feels she is enjoying the fruit and labor of others. She states she would be remiss if she did not quote Joshua 24:13 “And I have given you a land for which ye did not labor, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and olive yards which ye planted not do ye eat.” It is her desire to be able to give back to our community by laboring with all of her might so that others in the future can continue to utilize everything our hospital has to offer. Ms. Walters is a “homegrown” girl. She is a 1988 graduate of Church Point High. She is married to her biggest supporter Douglas Walters. “Although he works behind the scenes he deserves so much of the credit.” Together, they have the pleasure of rearing their 11 year old daughter Dakota in the “best community” on this side of Heaven.
